All the Way to the Top

Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.

With this verse of the Holy Qur’an in mind and also with the intention of doing something which could be of use to others, the humble author along with 15 other jolly lads from Dewsbury and Birmingham set out for our trip to tackle the second highest peak in the UK- the mighty Mount Snowdon. We were doing this as a sponsored trek so that we could raise money for Masjid-e-Hidayah in Dewsbury andsnowdon-2.jpg Masjid-e-Aisha in Birmingham.

Alhumdulillah (All Praise belongs to Allah), throughout the trip our we were all in high spirits, grateful at being given the opportunity to do something for charity and relishing the chance of stretching our legs and getting to grips with the great outdoors.

And as you can see from the pictures the scenery was absolutely fantastic! Indeed, as we are increasingly becoming more and more reliant upon technology, and as we spend more and more time glaring at the computer screens (moi included!), maybe we can be excused for forgetting what signs Allah has put in this world for recognising Him. But one trip outside is enough to refresh our minds and helps us put the humdrum of our daily lives into perspective.

To be honest, the weather wasn’t that great and I was repeatedly reminded of Tolkien’s description of Caradhras which the ‘Company’ attempt to climb in his book, ‘Lord of the Rings‘! Fortunately for us though, there was no snow (except at the top), and no snowdrifts alhumdulillah!

Of the five paths to the top, we took the Llanberis Path to the top, and it started out as a nice leisurely Sunday morning stroll. Things, however, took an interesting turn once we passed the half-way cafe, and after a covering the short sharp ascent which we came to after the cafe, we crossed under an arch, turned a corner and Allahu-Akber (Allah is Great), we suddenly found ourselves walking inside a cloud! And the wind! The wind was swirling the rain hard against our faces and yours truly was cursing himself for not buying the gloves from the shop at the foot of the mountain!

snowdon-1.jpgIt was, however, extremely enjoyable, and the Unity between the brothers was superb alhumdulillah. The title of first to the top goes to young Imran from Birmingham, and the booby prize of last but not least was awarded to…..well…isn’t it the taking part that counts?!

All Praises and Thanks are due only to Allah for making this possible and easy for us and may he accept the £671 that we managed to raise and give all of us the ability to help His Deen (Religion) as much as we can, in as many ways as we can. Ameen.
