Seeing is Believing

seeing.jpgAssalaamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

This is what I saw…

People sitting down so close that one movement of your body sends a tremor down the line…

The people standing at the back, only Allah knows how much their legs ached during the 90 minutes they stood…

And then?

Then there was the rain.

Oh the beautiful rain!

How it pattered softly on those who stood outside listening intently, their eyes shut, their minds open, their hearts racing towards Allah…

This then was the spectacle, the spectacle that took place on the eve of the 3rd of July 2007, when those who came to Masjid-Al-Hidayah were blessed with the wonderful recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Shaikh Ramadhan Hajjaj-Al-Hindawi and Shaikh Mahmood Shahat from Egypt.

I saw other things too…

I saw a whole host of people, gathered from different families, from different backgrounds, from different countries, all gathered for one purpose – to listen to the Book of Rahman (the Most Merciful), to understand, to try to practice in their own lives the Hidayah (guidance) given by Him Alone who can guide us.

I saw people who had their heads down, maybe they were crying? Maybe they were just concentrating? Or maybe they were looking into their own hearts and experiencing the bliss, the proximity – that connection, that one can only get when he attaches himself to the Book of Allah.

Then I stopped looking at others and looked at myself…

I looked at the goosebumps which had been erect since the first Ayah (verse), I looked at the way I hadn’t realised that I had been leaning on one wrist for at least 20 minutes and now it was hurting (!) and then I finally closed my eyes and thanked my Allah for giving me this opportunity and found myself looking forward to the day when He who created this perfect Book, who chose and arranged the poetry that is to be found in the Qur’an – yes, I looked forward to and with all my heart yearned for, the day when insha-Allah (with the Will of Allah), Allah will recite His Book for His servants who had been faithful to Him.

This then, is what I saw.

Alhumdulillah (all Praises belong to Allah), may He give us the Taufiq (Divine aid) of being one of the faithful. Ameen.
