Assalamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

So there we were:

12:30 am on a Friday night and yours truly was having a rant…..a rant at my mates for telling me that they were going to do their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) on motorbikes some 8 hours later and not letting me know!

Oh the injustice of it all! If only they had known how much I wanted to do this!
Anyway, to cut a long tirade short (!), I decided to join them and went along with them, and alhumdulillah (all Praise belongs to Allah) I got a place on the day long course!

It costs £100 and you need to bring both parts of your licence, but the advantage is that after you get the certificate, you are legally allowed to ride a motorbike up to 125 cc (which is quite fast for beginners!) on the road. You have to have ‘L’ plates on and you have to be insured as well, but you cannot go on the motorway - that has to wait until you pass your test, which has to be within 2 years of passing the CBT.

The course lasted the whole day, and it was a good opportunity to interact with non-Muslims as well, and to try to portray Islam. We had a laugh and a joke (even though I had the moped!), and alhumdulillah although it wasn’t possible to pray our Salaat (prayer) there, we got back home in time and were able to pray Zuhr before the time ended.

PS: Apparently, the bike tests are going to get much harder by October 2008 so more people are trying to pass before that date. If you have ever fancied the idea of zooming around on two wheels, then it might be worthwhile doing the same.
