The Kiswah

842435_el-haram_elmakki.jpgAssalamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

Did you know…

That the Kiswah (the black cloth which covers the Ka’bah) is made of pure black silk, 450 kilograms of which were used in its manufacture?

Designed in 5 pieces to cover the walls of the Ka’bah, it is 14 metres in height and 47 metres in length, with a 95 centimetre-wide band of Ayaat (verses) from the Holy Qur’an embroidered in gold.

Its total cost was estimated in 1999 at SR 17 million (US$ 4.5 million), including material and labour.

And Allah knows best.

  1. If that 4.5 million dollars was used to help those who need it. Do you think Allah would mind?
