And you seem to have hit the nail on the head with the fact about the state and media paranoia about all things Muslim - which is extremely unfortunate.
However, it does seem that the PR has been as much for the Shariah Councils as for the C of E.

Dr Williams wasn&#039;t intereseted in discussing the finer details of Sharia Law or in debating the adoption of Sharia Law into Britain. I think that this was a calculated pronoucement by Williams designed for maximum impact riding on the coat tails of a healthy rival religion. C of E is in decline and riddled with fractures. His authority and profile mirror this and are in decline. His comments the other week sought to raise the issue of general religous authority but he needed a successfull example which precludes the C of E. So he used Islam to make his point, which fed into the state and media paranoia about all things Muslim and he got some by and large, positive reports in the press - a commodity that has been in very short supply for Williams and the C of E recently.
