Energise Yourself!

Assalaamu-Alaykum – Peace be Upon you

When it comes to our work, study or career commitments we always seem to find or make the time to go that little bit further.

Let me give you an example…..

I recently had a last minute presentation to prepare for work – and I mean last minute!!

So what did I do?

Well after the intial wave of panic and helplessness had washed over me, I got down to the nitty gritty, prayed to Allah for help and started my preparations.

As it turned out, it was only after I had completed my preparations that I was told at the 11th hour that I did need to make the presentation – aaarrrggghhh!!!  But the point is, for that time, I pushed most things in my life to one side and concentrated on this one thing which I knew I had to get right and did it properly.

So let’s apply this to doing other things – like learning and propagating Islam and doing good, charitable works.

Because of the volunteer aspect of all this, most of us tend to shy away from these refreshing and good activities.

Whether it’s helping the local kids with homework, doing some general housework, taking part or being involved in the setting up of inter-Faith or Islamic activities, because all these things are there for us to do if we want to, most of us do not get involved and in fact miss out on a lot of benefits.

What benefits you might ask?

Well apart from gaining the pleasure of Allah, and apart from the immense rewards a person will receive from Allah, there’s also the personal satisfaction element of things – or as it is also known as, the ‘feel good factor’.

Whether it’s helping out in the community or helping out in the local Masjid, for a Muslim, all of these bring great rewards from Allah in this life and in the life to come.  It refreshes our Faith, nourishes our souls and generally brings from Allah that ‘glow’ you get when you do a good deed.

But I must invite my readers to remember one thing – that for a Muslim there is no ‘good deed for the day’ – oh no.

Islam teaches us to do as much as we can with the best possible intention so that we may include all of it in our petition to Allah for our salvation.

So let’s take some time out, make some good connections, help the community, help each other and energise ourselves!
