Just Another Day

Assalaamu-Alaykum – Peace be Upon you

It’s so easy to forget all the good things – so easy to forget what makes every day worth living.

And it’s so easy to forget all the bad things – all the bad things which steal the sleep from your eyes and rob you of your faith in humanity.

What a system Allah has created! When good things happen we all smile and let the world know, but when we take a stumble upon the bumpy road which we call life, we look at the sky, spread our hands and ask, ‘Why me?’

Indeed what a system! You’d think that when Allah wants something good for us in this life and in the Akhirah (Hereafter) he would make it easy for us and make the road straight and safe – sometimes.  But sometimes I think that maybe Allah tests us because He wants to see exactly where our loyalties lie, and he wants to find out how sincere we are in our beliefs and in our convictions…

Because it is only throught man’s affliction that man’s true nature comes out, and just as the metal must go through the furnace to be purified, Allah has set the system until the end of time that if you want Him, you have to give your ALL for him.

Now that is something deep – something which shakes the very foundations of my weak weak heart.

A look at history shows why Allah states in the Qur’an that he is pleased with the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).  The trials they went through were of a magnitude that we cannot even conceive of thinking of.  And yet, they stood firm, like rocks in the storm of life, and came through as pure as gold.

But Allah is Merciful, and he doesn’t expect that from everyone.  It is stated in a Hadith:

No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.

So just remember, we all have good days and we all have bad days.  Sometimes it is our fault, and other times we are blameless – the trick is to keep going and making your relationship with your Lord immovable and unshakeable.

I end with these beautiful thoughts written by someone who was in probably one of the most difficult trials a person can face in this age of injustice and imprisonment without trial or charge:

The beauty of the realities of faith is that they interesect with one another to carve out a person who can withstand storms of pressure from his environment. The ultimate reality of Qada’ and Qadar is directly intertwined with the roads of patience, gratitude, and reliance. Sabr, shukr, and tawakkul – what a beautiful combination…

It is from this combination that the most interesting and mind-boggling people walked this Earth and sustained themselves upon – the awliya’ of Allah. The Prophets Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, ‘Isa, Muhammad (عليهم الصلاة و السلام), Abu Hanifah, ash-Shafi’i, Ahmad bin Hambal, an-Nawawi, Ibn Taymiyyah, his loyal student Ibn al-Qayyim, Sayyid Qutb, and many others – they all drank from a pure, clear spring that invigorated and refreshed them, bringing them sense, intellect, power, and influence. That spring was flowing with a perfect combination of these essential ingredients: sabr, shukr, tawakkul, and belief in Qada’ and Qadar.

  1. As I am reminded constantly by my mother, this life is only temporary, you a here one day and gone the next. So what ever you do you do it for the pleasure of Allah. When you go through the good times ‘thank Allah’ and through the hard time ‘turn to Allah’. As a Muslim the true life is yet to come, the life hereafter is forever and what we aim for is to please Allah and from his mercy inshallah be granted paradise… Ameen

So I request everyone who is reading this comment to remember this life is temporary -we may have a credit crunch but Allah’s blessings is plentyful so we must do our part to sercure our place in heaven…

  2. Jazakallah for the post!

Sabr, shukr and tawakkul, truly, alhamdulillah, these are qualities which if embraced at times of difficulty will surely help one through the challenging moments. But, they can be such a challenge to grasp hold of! However, surely Allah gives no burden bigger that what we can bear..so, if Allah gives the trial surely he gives the strength, the ability to have sabr, shukr and tawakkul; all we have to do is look from the correct perspective, look at the bigger picture, seek out from within us and act upon, these key ingredients, which we surely will have been gifted with from our Creator.

This way, inshaAllah, won’t our trials be a means of bettering ourselves, a means of establishing and developing our relationship with Allah, Ar- Rahmaan.

Once released from the furnace, shouldn’t we take heed from the lessons we have learnt, ensuring the development of our character and continue to strive to climb the ladder towards the happiness of Allah.

Alhamdulillahi alaa Kulli haal- All praise be to Allah in every condition.

  3. Like h says the credit crunch is a test From Allah to see if we turn to him or not. It us to see if we turn to him and ask him for barkat in our health wealth and time. So let’s not follow the mass and sit and cry we have been taught by our prophet that in times of hardship we turn to Allah and for one who does sabar and shukur allah will ease his worries.
