Watching the Greatness of Allah in HD

Assalaamu-Alaykum – Peace be Upon you

I’ve always loved watching nature programmes/documentaries.

For me and indeed for a lot of people, it is a chance to see the creation and the Greatness of Allah up close and learning and understanding His system.  Indeed, it is through watching the life and order of the natural world that Allah has created around us that we actually come to recognise the Master Creator, Allah Himself.

Allah has said in the Qur’an in many places that it is through observation of the world around us that we actually come closer to recognising our Lord.

Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the difference of night and day, there are signs of His Greatness for men of understanding

Al-Qur’an

So there I was, watching Discovery HD and being amazed – every single drop of water, every single hair on the body of a sloth, all the detail on the leaves floating on the water in crystal clarity.  And truly what a world, what a system Allah has created!

Take for example the majestic manitee – it lives in the Amazon, where the weather is at its most tropical.  Drenching sun combined with pouring rains gives rise to a plant known as the water lettuce.  From just a few leaves at the beginning of the season, to covering vast swathes of the river surface in just a matter of weeks, this plant grows at an amazing rate, blocking all light to the riverbed and all the life within.

However, the manitee, swimming slowly underwater, is on hand and it gorges itself on the plentiful water lettuce and in doing so, is the catalyst behind a number of things taking place…..

Firstly, as this is the season, it builds up its reserves of fat for the coming months when the water lettuce will be in short supply.  Furthermore, by clearing the river surface of the plant, it allows the life giving rays of the sun to penetrate and thus provide the light for the underwater plants, which thereby creates food for the fish living and hence the circle of life continues – subhanallah (Allah is Pure).

So there you have it – even in this day and age, through modern technology, Allah has provided for us a means whereby we can recognise Him and all that He has created and thus get closer to HIm.  It is up to us now to take these opportunities and get closer to our Creator.

Ma’as-salaam – With Peace
