The 7th Ansaar Funday – Sunday 12 July 2009

Assalaamu-Alaykum – Peace be Upon you

Well it’s that time of year again! Yes, once again, the fantastic community-fest that is the 7th Ansaar Funday, will take place insha-Allah (with the Will of Allh) on Sunday 12 July 2009 – that’s THIS SUNDAY!!!

As usual, the event is packed full of fun activities including sports, competitions, food stalls as well as stalls providing information about statutory and voluntary organisations and there’s even a climbing wall I’m told!

My personal favourite was the archery they had last year, but unfortunately it closed just before I got a chance to have a go!!  Anyway, weather permitting, it promises to be a good wholesome day out, especially for the kids, so please come along and sample the fun.

Event: Ansaar Funday

Venue: Birkdale High School, Wheelwright Drive, Dewsbury

Time: 9:30 am til 5 pm

Details: Please note that this is a men only event

Ma’as-salaam – With Peace

  1. Salam and duas, I dont know how many fundays our esteemed writer has attended over the years – I have been to a fair few and if truth be told I have just about had my fill! I think the aims of the organisers have always been laudible and their effort and commitment admirable. All that acknowledged a funday based around a football tournament which year on year degenerates into a kicking match on the pitch and abusive and violent rants from spectating adults (who frankly should know better) off the pitch is not my idea of a family fun day out. If this is intended to be a show case of all the good in the community then sadly it is failing. We have all heard the saying if it hasnt broken down dont fix it – sadly this day has long since broken down and it is high time to fix it instead of pretending it is something which sadly it is not!!!!!!!!!!!!! and hasnt been for a very long time if at all. Sorry to utter such home truths – yours for ever and always in need of your forgiveness, Elyas.

  2. Home truths? Well maybe and maybe not brother Elyas. I completely disagree with you regarding whether or not the event as a whole is good for the community, however, I do agree with your comments regarding football.

I think that if we placed the blame on the event organisers it would be misplaced as the football tournament (which is incidentally one of the MANY activities on the funday) is sadly one of the only thing which gets the pulses racing for young as well as old. I think that the sport of football in this day and age has degenarated our public into shouting, offensive hooligans, who, for the sake of the supremacy of their team, plunge into such atrocious depths of ridicule and insult which ultimately end up in them breaking the commands of Shariah – either by their words or their actions.

Ban the football? Well, on the whole I would say yes, but if we do so, let’s give the community something a little more intellectually stimulating so that our young can become the future MINDS which will lead us and not just glory-seeking vain THUGS.

Sorry if this seems a little harsh, but it is something I feel quite strongly about. Anyway, it was an excellent Funday, and guess what? I don’t even know the final result of the football tournament because I was too busy enjoying the atmosphere of the day itself. May Allah reward the organisers and all those who helped out accordingly.
