Do you believe that our individual actions affect us all collectively?

Well after our previous post entitled Swings and Roundabouts, I thought that because saying that what we did individually affected us all collectively was a very big assertion to make, we should carry out a little survey and see what you think.

So here it is, Hidayah Blog’s first (but probably not last!) poll. Click away and give us your feedback folks, we’ll publish the results in the not too distant future insha-Allah (with the Will of Allah).

Prep Club!

March 30th, 2008

559613_studying_2.jpgAssalaamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

Well I had a quick visit on Monday to the after-school club that has been started by a couple of local Scholars and helpers.

It’s to help kids to help reach their attainment targets set by the teachers. At present they are concentrating on the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, but the ‘club’ also provides support for the children, who are mostly teenagers, on important issues such as drugs and also question and answer sessions on any general matters and contemporary issues that they are unsure of.

I have to say, I was impressed by what I was shown and told and indeed, am quite optimistic about its future (especially now that I have heard that they are planning a pot-holing trip in the near future!).

Local schools such as Westborough High and Thornhill High are already co-operating and have seen the improvement of their pupils in the short space of time that the club has been open. This is becuase by collaborating with the schools, they are creating individualised teaching plans for each student and thereby maximising the potential of each child.

For any students or parents who are interested, it is based at the Taleem and Training Centre, Orchard Street, Dewsbury and runs between 5-7 pm every weeknight. The fee is £10.00 per person per week.

Please call Hafez Lukman on 07866 765 662 for further details.

May Allah give all those involved the best of rewards in this life and the Akhirah (Hereafter).

Time To Go Green!

March 27th, 2008

974423_lonely_tree.jpgAssalaamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

All around us is the beautiful world which Allah has provided us with.

Just take the vast ‘ceiling’ which is our sky.  Simply sit there and stare and you won’t find any cracks.  And what about those amazing fluffy clouds?!  Look at them long enough and you’ll see whatever you want to see!

Beautiful blue seas teeming with fish of every sort and colour, amazing sand beaches,  and great, towering majestic mountains - we have truly been blessed with the most beautiful planet by Allah.

But as Muslims what have we done to preserve this bounty that Allah has given us?

Have we even laid any thought to this beautiful planet and how it is slowly diminishing in front of our eyes? Do we blink an eye on issues such as deforestation or global warming? Does it even bother us?

Well its never too late, and even though vast ice shelfs are now melting as a result of our planet polluting activities, we too can take a part and help save our planet and recycle - yes recycle! Remember the word? Below are some steps which we can all do to help towards this noble cause:

· Recycle half your waste at home!!- sort everything by sort paper / bottles etc.

· Ensure your household is well insulated- do you know how much energy we waste? Get this done and you could probably lower your home bills - not bad eh!!??

· Use energy efficient bulbs – I’m sure we can do at least this much!!!

· Save energy – turn off machines and that does not mean standby!!

· Re-cycling bins. Remember the Green ones - put the correct bits in each one and make life easier for those recycling.

· Educate your family members & publicise -your program won’t work if others within the household and work are not on board. Make sure everyone understands the importance of recycling and the benefits.

· Help plant some trees - help reduce the greenhouse effect.

Who knows how much of an effect we will have on the planet if we do this?  It might not seem like much, but remember, just as the steady dripping of water on the same part of a stone erodes it away over time, we too can reverse the damage that we have caused to this bounty that Allah has given us by being considerate towards the environment and going green.

May Allah give me and all of us the Taufiq to try our hardest to make a start with this.

Swings and Roundabouts

751599_traffic_sign_12.jpgAssalamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

We’ve all heard that saying, ‘what goes around comes around’ - indeed, we’ve probably said it ourselves a few times.

Well it was during yet another news update on BBC Radio 4 which was describing the impending economic crisis, that the saying popped into my head.

Why, you might ask?

Something From the Weekend

March 18th, 2008

781709_mosque.jpgAssalamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

Alhumdulillah (all Praise belongs to Allah) the program on Saturday went ahead and everybody seemed to enjoy it.

We were enlightened by words of wisdom from Moulana Imran and uplifted by the Qur’an recitation, Nazams and Arabic Nasheeds from the students he brought down with him.

Jazakallah (may Allah give the best recompense) to them for taking the time out and coming down, to the Imam of Masjid-e-Hidayah for arranging it and last but not least to the chef for the wonderful food afterwards!

Please click below for the introductory Qur’anic recitation, Nazams and Arabic Nasheed:-

House For Sale

March 12th, 2008

587283_pearl_tower.jpg

This is no ordinary house!!

“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah builds for them a house in Paradise.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Abdullah ibin Qais Al-Ash’ari (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said:
A tent (in Paradise) is like a hollow pearl which is thirty miles in height. On every corner of the tent the believers will have a family that cannot be seen by the others. (Narrated Abu Imran in another narration, (The tent is) sixty miles (in height). [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Still interested in purchasing one??

As many of you will be aware, alhumdulilah (all Praises belong to Allah) the Masjid at the top of Caledonian Road, Dewsbury - Masjid-e-Hidayah has been built and five time prayers take place on a daily basis. Alhumdulilah there is a full time Imam, classes for Hifz (memorization of the Qur’an) takes place and classes for little children to learn to read the Qur’an also.

Alhumdulilah a number of activities also take place, such as Durood Shareef gathering every Thursday after Isha (sending blessings upon the Prophet (PBUH) and the praying of Hadith (Traditions of the Prophet PBUH) everyday.

As you are aware there is a cost in running the mosque and it would be very helpful to the Masjid and the locality if people could donate towards this. The mosque has been built but it still has £100,000 pounds outstanding (Karz-e-Hasna).

Therefore, the locals and the committee members make this humble request that brothers and sisters help towards this noble cause. Our spending in the path of Allah will not mean less money for us, but quite the opposite, Allah the all beneficent will give us more Barakah (blessings, abundance - there is no direct English translation of this word) in our lives and wealth.

If through our spending, a child is taught how to read the Qur’an,then that means that every time he reads for the rest of his or her life, we will be rewarded for it.

So please, brothers and sisters, dig deep for the pleasure of Allah, and help this cause.

Whoever provides ease for someone who is burdened with debt, Allah will provide ease for him in this world and the Akhirah (Hereafter).” [Sahih Muslim]

Spend your wealth for the cause of Allah, and make not your hands contribute to your destruction; and do good. Lo! Allah loves those who are beneficent. [Al-baqarah: 195]

And once again may Allah bless you in your health, wealth and time.

Jazakamulah khairan (may Allah give you the best recompense).

752456_headphones_31.jpgAssalamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

Well here it is as promised, the recording for the program that was held at Zakaria Masjid on Sunday 24 February 2008.

Once again, jazakallah khair (may Allah give the best recompense) to all those who took part and helped out in any way, and a special thank you to IMWS for the equipment, whilst not for a moment forgetting the Committee members of Zakaria Masjid for their permission and guidance - jazakallah!

What’s more, you can also download the slides containing the meaning we showed when the Qur’an was being recited, so you can read the meaning as you listen to the wonderful recitation by the Qurras (plural of Qari - someone who is well versed in the reading of the Qur’an).

Click here to listen to the whole or parts of the event.

Once again, jazakallah to everyone involved, and pray that Allah gives us the understanding of the Qur’an and the ability to spread the beauty of Islam through the Qur’an.

Sharia Law Takeover?

February 29th, 2008

875413_balance.jpgAssalaamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

Well now that the whole furore has died down and everybody seems to be thinking calmly again, it is time for Hidayah Blog to tackle the all important issue of the Sharia Councils in Britain.

What we must remember here is that Shariah law is not here to undermine English law in any way - not at all. And also that Shariah law does not give any British Muslim the right to stop obeying English law - we all live in England so the rules apply to all of us, irrespective of colour, race or creed.

However, we must be conscious of the fact Shariah law does apply to Muslims wherever they are in the world, and that means British Muslims as well. So in reality, what this means is that British Muslims must live according to the law of the land and also according to the dictates of Shariah.

This is really not so hard, when you consider that this has been done by practising Muslims living in Britain for years now - it is part of our daily routine.

So what do these Shariah Councils do?

In a nutshell, when Muslims get married, as well as getting a civil Registry marriage, they must also perform the Nikah (marriage ceremony) which is a practice of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), otherwise they are not Islamically married.

Therefore, if the couple divorce, not only do they have have to have a Decree of divorce granted by a Judge, but they must also divorce, or separate, Islamically - and quite simply, the Shariah Council helps the couple to do that.

There is no undermining of the English legal system, and I personally am aware that the Shariah Council in Dewsbury makes an active effort to work alongside solicitors and has been doing so for the last 15 years.

Unfortunately, once again, the press has done its job in distorting and hiding the truth, and has whipped up a mass frenzy around the Archbishop’s comments. We at Hidayah Blog believe that the Archbishop’s comments should be considered with a cool head and allow this debate to open issues of concern to all the citizens of the UK.

Otherwise, all such concerns of Muslim Communities are unnecessarily exploited by devisive individuals and groups, who are only after self-glorification and are driven by their own misguided agendas.

So there it is - Sharia law working in harmony with English law in England, not Shariah law taking over England.

And Allah knows best.

Ma’as-salaam

866529_feedback_form_excellent.jpgAssalaamu-Alaykum (Peace be Upon you)

Alhumdulillah (all Praise belongs to Allah), as you may have gathered from the comments in the preceeding post, the event on Sunday took place and went really well alhumdulillah.

There were around 200 men and about 60 women (come on people we can do better!!) and according to one report, lots of children with their fathers, which was really encouraging.

Obviously, one who does not thank the people does not thank Allah, so jazakallah khair (may Allah give the best recompense) to all those who took part and helped out.

This means key people like the Imam of Masjid-e-Hidayah, Moulana Rashid, Qari Saeed Makda, Moulana Shahid, Qari Abbas and Moulana Hasib - may Allah give you all the best of reward, not forgetting all the other helpers who wish to remain nameless, but without whom the event could not have gone ahead.

And also to Moulana Zubair for his last minute taxi service - jazakallah!!

So now I must ask my diligent readers to keep on making dua that Allah accepts this, and that He gives us the Taufiq (Divine aid) to do more for the Ummah (community of Mankind).

P.S - Insha-Allah, the recording for the whole programme is in the pipeline, so keep checking here to download the whole thing when it is posted.

Ma’as-salaam
